FREE THINGS TO DO IN MILAN THAT ARE ACTUALLY WORTH IT

F IS FOR FUN FREE

Did you say free? Well, yes. Everyone knows Milan is this luxurious fashion-centred city, an amazing place to shop exclusively, to eat in some of the best restaurants in the world, and indulge in some impressive presentations at renowned theatres. What few people know is that Milan has just as incredible places to experience the city, that won’t even cost you a dime.

FOR THESE YOU WON’T EVEN HAVE TO “FORGET” YOUR WALLET AT HOME

Milan is, by itself, a beautiful city with many hidden gems. Most of those, are breathtaking and… free!

Churches:

Yes, we all know Duomo and how heavenly it looks. Makes sense it is the city’s postcard. But Milan has hundreds of churches living in the shadows, that would astonish you from the very first look. Most of them are free of charge, and definitely worth seeing. Some being San Maurizio, Santa Maria presso San Satiro and the very unique San Bernardino or the “Bone Chapel” nickname given by it’s walls that are covered in human bones.

Castello Sforzesco:

This castle is one of the most important monuments in Milan, and has been demolished and rebuilt to its exact proportion and looks many times. It served as a house, fortress and for that, forever a reminder and symbol of moments the city has lived.

The house of the two most powerful families that ever lived in Milan, and whom hosted Leonardo Da Vinci and Bramante, who painted several rooms in the castle, definitely deserves a visit.

Parks:

Parco Sempione is right behind Castello Sforzesco, and it’s the biggest park in the city. It paves a nature filled way to the Arco della Pace, a must see monument in one of the many incredible neighbourhoods in the city.

There’s also Parco Indro Montanelli, that’s surrounded by the Dugnani palace, and the Villa Real garden, that also gives a great view to the Bosco Verticale, that is the name given to skyscrapers with an amazing vertical garden.

Cimitero Monumentale:

Or just Monumentale, is a huge open cemetery in the city that allows you to understand the history and architecture that Milan has had, due to the fact that there is the resting place of extremely important families that lived throughout the years and helped the city develop to where it is today.

So if you have some days in this great city, really want to explore it but are in a tight budget, these places will show you how special the city is, without even opening – or even taking- your wallet.
